Sony Xperia Z Ultra spotted with physical reset button

It?s quite rare to see or hear of reset buttons in smartphones these days. Users usually just remove the battery or long press the power button, if either feature is available, to recover from a frozen phone. So it?s probably a bit strange that Sony has hidden a dedicated reset button for its Xperia Z Ultra.

Announced in June, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a giant of a phablet. Measuring 179 x 92 x 6.5mm and weighing 212g, the device has a 6.4? 1080p full HD display. Its hardware is no pushover either, with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 at 2.2 GHz and 2 GB of RAM, WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA. This is certainly a beast.

But even beasts go awry sometimes. So Sony has included a small hardware reset button hidden inside the microSD slot. It can be reached with a tipped object, but is apparently quite fragile so very sharp tips are discouraged. It seems that this isn?t Sony?s first such attempt, as the Xperia ZL and the Xperia SP also sport such buttons.

There are no new details about the availability or pricing of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, which hasn?t hit stores yet. It was earlier reported that it will arrive in UK stores in mid-September and that it will hit Singapore on September 5 with a price of around $800. So far no major US carrier has made any hints regarding the device but it would probably be released at around the same time.
