"Color was the statement of the Spring 2013 season," says Assistant Editor Phillip B. Crook, "and no show was louder than Vera Wang's crimson-hued collection." While the boundary-pushing designer offered looks in a variety of silhouettes, "this mermaid gown plays with texture in a way that's even more interesting to me than the boldness of the color. Laser-cut lace has been all the rage of late among both bridal and ready-to-wear designers, but Elizabeth Fillmore reinvented the trend by laser-cutting satin to look like lace. "This dress was originally fully lined, but Elizabeth told us she didn't really fall in love with the gown until she removed the lining from the skirt," recalls Phillip. "Of course, that's why I love it, too.
