Famed "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling is collaborating with Sony to create a?"Book of Spells" for?the augmented reality project known as?"Wonderbook."
Sony unveiled its?"Wonderbook" Monday as part of its pre-E3 press conference in Los Angeles. E3 -- the Electronic Entertainment Expo -- is the world's biggest video game trade show and officially gets under way Tuesday.
The?"Wonderbook" works with the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Eye camera?and?will deliver a series of augmented reality stories that young players can interact with. (It is somewhat reminiscent of the PS3 augmented reality game?"EyePet.")
According to Sony,?Rowling is penning the first of the "Wonderbook"?stories, called "Book of Spells" which will apparently take players into the Harry Potter universe. During the press conference, Sony showed off how players would be able to use the wand-like PlayStation Move controller to cast spells as the story unfolds.
"Wonderbook" is?scheduled to launch this holiday.
Check out the?trailer for "Wonderbook:?Book of Spells" below. But don't let your kids watch this and get misled. This is augmented reality -- so things don't really pop out of the book itself, but pop out of the book when you see it on the TV screen.?
